Frequently Asked Questions
Your tank gauge is located on the top of the tank, usually under a lid or hood which can be lifted up to view the gauge. Look for a gauge dial with numbers from 5 to 95. The numbers indicate the percentage of propane in the tank. When the level reaches to 30%, please schedule a delivery online or call customer service.
If you are a will-call or call-ahead customer, you should request a delivery when your tank reaches 30% to 40% to allow ample time for a delivery.
If an emergency or expedited delivery is required, additional fees may apply. You can request a delivery online through your MyAmeriGas account or by contacting us.
If you are enrolled in our Automatic Delivery Program, you do not need to contact us to request a delivery. We'll monitor your usage and automatically schedule deliveries when we estimate your tank is getting low. You can view your Estimated Tank Level and Estimated Days Remaining within your MyAmeriGas account. If you are running lower than expected, or if you tank reads 5% or below, submit a tank level update within your online account or contact customer service.

AmeriGas is also there with portable propane cylinders for your grill, which, for residential customers can easily be purchased or exchanged at one of our many locations.
Automatic Delivery is a free service where AmeriGas estimates your tank level and automatically schedules your deliveries. We forecast your demand based on the weather and your appliances, ensuring that you won't run out of gas. In normal use situations, there's typically no need to check your tank gauge and call for deliveries when you are an Automatic Delivery customer. While there is no additional charge to be an Automatic Delivery customer, you may need to meet credit terms.
As a Will Call customer you must monitor the level of propane in your tank and call to schedule a delivery whenever you are ready, or when the percentage falls to 30% to avoid running out of gas.

For safety, propane containers are only filled to 80% of their capacity. This is called the 80% fill rule. The 80% fill rule is a preventative safety measure against fluctuations that happen inside a tank. Propane, like water, will expand when heat is added to it. Propane, however, will increase in volume nearly 17 times greater than water over the same temperature increase. In many cases propane gas lines run underground between your propane storage tank and your house or business. That’s why it is important for you to know exactly where your gas lines are located and to avoid digging in that area. If you are an AmeriGas customer and your home or business improvements include landscaping or exterior home improvement work, please contact us before you start digging. We will work with you to locate your propane gas lines and ensure that your renovations or grounds maintenance do not put your safety, or the safety of others, at risk.
